St. Peter's Church, is the Parish Church of Wallsend and was built to replace the ancient church of the Holy Cross - the ruins of which are about a half mile distant. Originally a late-Georgian 'preaching box' the church was restored and Gothicised in the 1890's. Of special note are the windows in the north wall - Dublin glass of the 1920's - the central window is the work of Wilhemina Geddes. The churchyard contains numbers of 19thC headstones with typically sombre inscriptions whose gloom is offset by the two church schools - the oldest educational establishment in Wallsend, dating from 1833.
