St Peters, Bywell

St. Peter's Church, where Egbert was consecrated Bishop of Lindisfarne in AD 803. Most of the present building is late 13thC and the lancet windows at the East end are a superb example of the Early English style. The North Chapel was endowed by the Neville family as a chantry in the 14thC and after the Reformation was used as a village school, separated by a wall from the main building. The Church was exstensively restored in the mid 19thC.
