St. Nicholas's Cathedral, Newcastle, is for the most part the 14thC building surmounted by its famous 15thC lantern spire. Much of the interior furnishing dates back to the time of the creation of the new Diocese in 1882. There is one mediaeval window, a rare pre-reformation lectern and a 15thC font, two good Renaissance memorials, many interesting wall tablets and some good modern glass. The church replaced earlier buildings the earliest being Norman.
