Simeon of Durham in the 12th C. speaks of St. Cuthbert's 'Church on the Green' which is now the church of the townsfolk. There may be Saxon work on the chancel-arch wall, the north wall is late Norman c.1150 AD. The simple chancel is 13th C. and the south ailse is 14th C. English style. There is a high altar carpet which is a copy of a page from the Lindisfarne Gospels and was made by the women of Holy Island.

The Lindisfarne Gospels Exhibition has an interactive touchscreen version of the book called 'Turning the Pages' and is on permanent display at the Lindisfarne Heritage Centre on Holy Island.

A Visitors Book is available if you would like to make any comments or requests.
