Many movies have been filmed in the area most recently Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone where Alnwick Castle and its grounds as well as Durham Cathedral became Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Kevin Costner used nearby Hulne Priory and sections of the Roman Wall for Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. In the 60's Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole used Bamburgh Castle in the film Beckett. Roman Polanski used Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island as the setting for his 'cult movie' Cul-de-sac with Donald Pleasance and Francoise Dorleac. Get Carter was filmed in the West End of Newcastle, Gateshead and on the North East Coast.
