The upper floors have been inaccessible to the public since 1995 and its days are numbered. It was designed by Owen Luder CBE and at the time was hailed as a contemporary design classic. He also designed the Dunston 'Rocket' and the Tricorn Centre, Portsmouth. The structure comprises seven levels of parking which commence at the fourth storey level above the shopping centre market and originally provided 490 car parking spaces. The 5,500 sq ft 'roof-top restaurant' was marketed but never occupied and a number of subsequent expressions of interest were never realised. |
