The Lord Crewe Arms Hotel was built as the Abbots Lodge, Guest House and Abbey Kitchens. The lodging house was on the left and the main entrance to the hotel leads into what was the Abbey's kitchens. The guesthouse was that part inbetween and here important or wealthy travellers could find a bed for the night. The lounge and bar were store rooms where food from the Abbey's land s were kept. The giant fireplace in the lounge would have been used for the smoking and curing of meat. High up inside the chimeny there is said to be a priest's hiding hole.

Some of this text was taken from the leaflet 'Look at Blanchland' which is available inside the Abbey.

A Visitors Book is available if you would like to make any comments or requests.
