The village schoolhouse was built in 1851 as an all-age school where the pupils had to pay for their lessons. It closed in 1981 when there were only eight pupils attending. The bell tower had been removed a few years earlier. The two entrances to its grounds have unusual stone posts which once supported the winding engine at the Ramshaw lead mine.
