Beamish, The North of England Open Air Museum, near Stanley in North West Durham recreates northern life as it was in the early days of the century. there is a reconstructed town centre of authentic houses and shops, colliery village, railway station, Home Farm. So you can go into a pitman's cottage, explore a coal mine, watch the animals on the farm or even take a tram to the Victorian town and see the steam trains at Rowley Station.
