The Bruce Building, Percy Street

The Bruce Building (1896 - 1900)
Architect: Joseph Oswald

Location: Percy Street, Newcastle upon Tyne.

This close up view shows the heavily decorated doorframe above the mahogany door. The decorative work incorporates hops in the design, a recurring theme in the building's decorative work due to the plant's association with the brewing industry. This particular office fronts onto Percy Street and has a slightly more elaborate surround than that of the Inquiry Office. An interesting footnote here is that this office was used in the courtroom scene from the hugely successful 2000 film 'Billy Elliot' which was filmed on location in the North East region.
